Un-Edited Digi Pack images

These are the images that I have taken from various locations around Manchester, the location is significant as the band should conventionally have strong links to the audience through the relate-able lifestyle/area.

Logo/Font Decision

This is the logo that I have created for the band, when creating it I referred to my research, allowing me to use ideas explored by Oasis, e.g the white border surrounding the text. I have also decided to keep the text all on one line instead of having the words stacked on top of each other. I have been creative when creating my logo as shown through the line going through the 'O', this was originally an experimental idea but I liked how it can apply to the meaning behind the name. The red also signifies the reinforcement of the 'no' in the band name.

DigiPack: Image Research

This image symbolises the lifestyle of the audience in which Oasis reach out to. The image is aimed to be from the point of view of one of the band members at a bar.
This is shown through the ash tray and the pint on either sides of the menu styled lyrics sheet. This creates a direct link with the working class audience and the band.
The ash tray in the bottom left is symbolism for the addiction  that the fans seek to escape from through the music that Oasis produce, this is commonly displayed in the genre by bands like The Arctic Monkeys.
The image of the cigarette buts is not an appealing image, this could be to show that the inner beauty of the lyrics is not defined by the looks around the menu.

In the majority of digi-packs, there is use of establishing shots, this is done to create a strong link to the audience through letting them into the life of the band and showing them how they live and/or where they were brought up. It usually shows similarities to the lifestyle of the audience which creates the strong connection between the two.

This image shows a sunset behind a council estate, this suggests that they are trying to tell their fans that they will not always be in that position. They are trying to show there audience that they can make it out and have happiness.

This image is the image that was used for the magazine advert as well as the front cover of the digi-pack.
The image itself is significant in creating an authentic Mancunian feel, which is consistent throughout Oasis's album covers and digi-packs. The iconic setting a symbolises the struggles the state of areas in Manchester and how it links to the band and their audience.

DigiPack: Institutional Information

In a Digpack there must be information on the institution and the producers of the CD and from looking at different magazine adverts and digipacks I have found what information to include on the producers and the institution.

DigiPack: Font Research

Image result for muse

The Font that Muse have used, uses binary opposition of black and white, along with the balance between text and background, to create a sense of isolation.
They also challenge the stereotypes as they use all capital letters to separate from doing things like they should be done in society, for example, we are taught to only use capital letters at the start of names/places and sentences.
The border that is used to outline the text is unique in the fact that it isn't all 4 sides of the rectangle its just the top and the bottom, almost showing the band as being pressed down on or pressured.

Image result for Linkin Park
Linkin Park's logo uses abstract imagery to show the bands initials through a spiral like shape. This aligns with the codes of the genre as the genre likes to explore being different and not doing the same things or style as others.
The symbolism for spirals usually mean the nature of life as it starts in the middle and expands outwards much like life is structured, this can be a message for the audience influencing them to live their lives to the fullest.

Image result for arctic monkeys logoThe Arctic Monkey's font contains elements of lacking perfection or not being totally normal, this is extremely important when considering the conventions of the genre, as they are known for expressing themselves even if they aren't perfect.
This is also contrasted to the other fonts/logos, that I have looked at as the colours are reversed from the traditional white on a black background.

Final Product

From our audience feedback in the form of comments and the focus group, we have made many changes to our product based on what the target audience enjoy about it and what they would change about the product.

Editing Session 3

In this editing session I only had to do a few touch ups, based on the audience feedback.

I began by using the blade tool to cut out a reasonable portion of the establishing shot out of the full clip. However, I then had to find appropriate clips that allowed the time to match up and not put all of the lip-syncing out of time.

I also had to change the clip from the Kitchen scene as it had poor camera work due to our under-experience in tracking shots. I switched the tracking shot to a standard panning shot. This allowed the same shot but with a higher quality of clip.

I have also added more shallow focus shots to the start of the narrative as it allows the audience to get a real understanding of the disruption of the narrative.

Audience Feedback

Verbal Feedback-
From the verbal feedback from our audience I have realised that many of our shots that we have used contain poor camera-work and we needed to switch them with other shots that we had filmed. An example of this is in the Kitchen scene where Alex walks into the kitchen this scene had a wobbly camera shot, that I am going to change in the next editing session.

Another issue that was brought to our attention is the establishing shot at the beginning of the narrative, we were told that this shot was too long and didn't need to be. This will be changed in the next editing session.

Editing Session 2

In editing session 2 I focused on the kitchen scene as I was confident with the starting scene, this meant that I had to look through the many shots and angles that I had filmed from. This lead to me choosing a tracking shot which allowed me to show Alex walking into the kitchen with more of authentic feel.

After, I cut the first clip to size I moved onto the next angle that shows Alex hugging the mannequin. There were not a lot of problems with finding this shot as I didn't film it as many times as the others.

Editing Session 1

All editing was done on the software called Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), I decided to use this software due to the knowledge I have developed from using it in AS.

I Started the editing by finding the audio clip of Mardy Bum, the song we have chosen, I then spent 10 minutes looking through each of the possible clips for the opening clip. After finding the perfect clip for the opening scene, I used the provided trim tool to cut it down to the perfect timing.

For the second clip I had to experiment with the trim tool to see how long the clip had to be to flow perfectly and not ruin the intended message.

The most difficult part of editing this music video was timing the lip-syncing with the music, this took me half an hour to match Alex with the music I had to use the blade tool and trim tool to perfect the synchronisation of the two.
